O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High (Eisenach, Organ)

Lyrics – 6 verses

Suitable for: Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Baptism of Christ

O love, how deep, how broad, how high!
How passing thought and fantasy,
That God, the Son of God, should take
Our mortal form for mortals’ sake!

He sent no angel to our race
Of higher power or lower place,
But wore the robe of human frame
Himself, and this lost world came.

For us baptized, for us he bore
His holy fast and hunger sore;
For us temptations sharp he knew,
For us the tempter overthrew.

For us to wicked men betrayed,
Scourged, mocked, in crown of thorns arrayed;
For us he bore the cross’s death,
For us at length gave up his breath.

For us he rose from death again,
For us he went on high to reign;
For us he sent his Spirit here
To guide, to strengthen, and to cheer.

All honor, laud, and glory be,
O Jesus, virgin-born, to thee;
whom with the Father we adore,
and Holy Ghost, forevermore.

He Sat To Watch O’er Customs Paid (Winchester New) – Organ

Lyrics ~ 6 verses

Suitable for the Feast of St Matthew

He sat to watch o’er customs paid,
A man of scorned and hardening trade,
Alike the symbol and the tool
Of foreign masters’ hated rule.

But grace within his breast had stirred;
There needed but the timely word:
It came, true Lord of souls, from thee,
That royal summons, ‘Follow me.’

Enough, when thou wast passing by,
To hear thy voice, to meet thine eye:
He rose, responsive to the call,
And left his task, his gains, his all.

O wise exchange! with these to part,
And lay up treasure in the heart –
Who now with crown of light doth shine
Among the apostolic line.

Come, Saviour, as in days of old;
Pass where the world has strongest hold,
And faithless care and selfish greed
Are thorns that choke the holy seed.

Who keep thy gifts, O bid them claim
The steward’s, not the owner’s name;
Who yield up all for thy dear sake,
Let them of Matthew’s wealth partake.

Lyrics – 3 verses

Suitable for general use, Palm Sunday and Feast of Christ the King

Come, let us sing to God,
Come, let us shout for joy!
Let us all worship Christ the King,
The manger-cradled boy!

Come, let us sing to God,
Sweet love songs for His Son,
Come let us worship Christ the Lord,
Come, O my Saviour, come!

Come, let us sing to God,
And all your praises bring;
Let us all worship God’s own Son,
Our Saviour and our King!
