Lift High The Cross (Crucifer, Organ, 11 Verses)

Lift High The Cross Lyrics

Refrain:
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
’til all the world adores his sacred name.

1. Come, brethren, follow where our captain trod,
our King victorious, Christ the Son of God. Refrain:

2. Led on their way by this triumphant sign,
the hosts of God in conquering ranks combine. Refrain:

3. Each new-born soldier of the Crucified
bears on his brow the seal of him who died. Refrain:

4. This is the sign which Satan’s legions fear
and angels veil their faces to revere: Refrain:

5. Saved by the cross whereon their Lord was slain
the sons of Adam their lost home regain. Refrain:

6. From north and south, from east and west they raise
in growing unison their song of praise. Refrain:

7. O Lord once lifted on the glorious tree
as thou hast promised, draw us unto thee. Refrain:

8. Let every race and every language tell
of him who saves our souls from death and hell. Refrain:

9. From farthest regions let them homage bring
and on his cross adore their Saviour King. Refrain:

10. Set up thy throne, that earth’s despair may cease
beneath the shadow of its healing peace. Refrain:

11. For thy blest cross which doth for all atone
creation’s praises rise before thy throne:
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
’til all the world adores his sacred name.

Jesu Lover Of My Soul (Aberystwyth – 3 verses) – Organ

Jesu Lover Of My Soul Lyrics

Jesu, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

Take Up Thy Cross, The Saviour Said (Breslau, Organ, 6 Verses)

Take Up Thy Cross, The Saviour Said Lyrics

Also known as Take Up Your Cross. Suitable for: Lent, Passiontide, Good Friday

1. Take up thy cross, the Saviour said,
If thou wouldst My disciple be;
Deny thyself, the world forsake,
And humbly follow after Me.

2. Take up thy cross, let not its weight
Fill thy weak spirit with alarm;
His strength shall bear thy spirit up,
And brace thy heart and nerve thine arm.

3. Take up thy cross, nor heed the shame,
Nor let thy foolish pride rebel;
Thy Lord for thee the cross endured,
And saved thy soul from death and hell.

4. Take up thy cross then in His strength,
And calmly sin’s wild deluge brave,
’Twill guide thee to a better home,
It points to glory o’er the grave.

5. Take up thy cross and follow Christ,
Nor think til death to lay it down;
For only those who bear the cross
May hope to wear the glorious crown.

6. To Thee, great Lord, the One in Three,
All praise forevermore ascend:
O grant us in our home to see
The heavenly life that knows no end.

Lectionary

At The Name Of Jesus (Evelyns, Organ, 7 Verses)

At The Name Of Jesus : Lyrics

1. At the name of Jesus
Every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess him
King of glory now:
‘Tis the Father’s pleasure
We should call him Lord,
Who from the beginning
Was the mighty Word.

2. At his voice creation
Sprang at once to sight,
All the angels faces
All the hosts of light,
Thrones and Dominations,
Stars upon their way,
All the heavenly orders,
In their great array.

3. Humbled for a season,
To receive a name
From the lips of sinners
Unto whom he came,
Faithfully he bore it
Spotless to the last,
Brought it back victorious,
When from death he passed:

4. Bore it up triumphant
With its human light,
Through all ranks of creatures,
To the central height,
To the throne of Godhead,
To the Father’s breast;
Filled it with the glory
Of that perfect rest.

5. Name him, brothers, name him,
With love as strong as death,
But with awe and wonder
And with bated breath:
He is God the Saviour,
He is Christ the Lord,
Ever to be worshipped,
Trusted, and adored.

6. In your hearts enthrone him;
There let him subdue
All that is not holy,
All that is not true:
Crown him as your captain
In temptation’s hour;
Let his will enfold you
In its light and power.

7. Brothers, this Lord Jesus
Shall return again,
With his Father’s glory,
With his angel train;
For all wreaths of empire
Meet upon his brow,
And our hearts confess him
King of glory now.

Be Thou My Vision (Slane, Organ, 5 Verses)

Be Thou My Vision Lyrics

The original words are attributed to Dallán Forgaill (c. 530 – 598). The English versions were versified by Eleanor Henrietta Hull (1860 – 1935) in 1912 based upon a translation by Mary Elizabeth Byrne (1880 – 1931) published in 1905.

Please note that there are two English versions of this hymn which have slightly different meters. Please ensure that the meter in your hymn book matches the meter of the recording or singing will be difficult.

Be Thou My Vision, Meter 10 11 11 12

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Be all else but naught to me, save that Thou art.
Be Thou my best thought in the day and the night;
Both waking and sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my wisdom, be Thou my true Word;
Be Thou ever with me, and I with Thee, Lord.
Be Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son;
Be Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight;
Be Thou my whole armour, be Thou my true might;
Be Thou my soul’s shelter, be Thou my strong tower;
O raise Thou me heavenward, great Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
Be Thou my inheritance now and always.
Be Thou and Thou only the first in my heart;
O Sovereign of Heaven, my treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, Thou Heaven’s bright Sun,
O grant me its joys after victory is won!
Great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be Thou my vision, O Ruler of all.
