For Every Blade Of Bright Green Grass (Green Grass – 5 Verses) – Piano Ensemble

For Every Blade Of Bright Green Grass Lyrics

For every blade of bright green grass,
For every petal of each flower,
For every leaf on every tree,
We thank you Lord God, Almighty.

For each raindrop, each wet shower,
That falls on dusty, parchèd earth,
And nourishes the fertile loam,
And sprouts up shoots with growing power.

For every seed of every plant,
That multiplies its sacred kind,
For sweetest fruit of yielding tree,
We thank you Lord God, Almighty.

For every species of each herb,
That seasons up our fractured whole,
And soothes and calms like Gilead’s balm,
And heals the mind, body and soul.

For Nature’s generosity
Sustaining all createdkind,
Your gift of Omni love divine,
We thank you Lord God, Almighty.

In Candle Glow Most Sacred (Nimrod -2 Verses) – SATB & Organ

In Candle Glow Most Sacred : Lyrics

In candle glow most sacred the Spirit rises,
Hovers, blesses one and all who gather here to pray.
Here to pray to God almighty,
Creator, splendid Mother of all,
Who gave birth to moon and sun.
Whose Spirit breathes living breath
To all who trust in Thee.
We who seek for Thee
Find comfort in the soul.

With divine light so holy,
Rises the great Holy Spirit,
Companion at times of peril,
Comforter and dearest friend.
Consoler of hearts,
Lover of our souls,
Creator, Saviour.
We sing to You our joy!
Amen.

History

Edward Elgar completed his Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, known more commonly as the Enigma Variations, in February 1899. There were fourteen in all, based on an original theme dedicated by Elgar “to my friends pictured within”.

Using the term “Enigma” Elgar has caused much speculation as to whether there is a hidden melody within the piece.

The 9th variation “Nimrod” is used here in this anthem and refers to Augustus J. Jaeger, a music editor and close friend of Elgar’s, known for giving the composer critical advice and help with his compositions. Nimrod is described in the Old Testament as “a mighty hunter before the Lord”, Jäger is the German for hunter.

Nimrod has become popular in its own right, often played at British funerals, memorial services, and other solemn occasions, including the National Service of Remembrance.

Now Thank We All Our God (Nun Danket, Organ, 3 Verses)

Now Thank We All Our God : Lyrics

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts and blessèd peace to cheer us;
And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed;
And free us from all ills, in this world and the next!

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given;
The Son and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven;
The one eternal God, whom earth and Heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

Hail To The Lord’s Anointed (Crüger, Organ, 5 Verses)

Hail To The Lord’s Anointed Lyrics

This recording of Hail To The Lord’s Anointed has been made to accompany singers in Church Services.

1. Hail to the Lord’s Anointed,
Great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression,
To set the captive free;
To take away transgression,
And rule in equity.

2. He comes with succour speedy
To those who suffer wrong;
To help the poor and needy,
And bid the weak be strong;
To give them songs for sighing,
Their darkness turn to light,
Whose souls, condemned and dying,
Are precious in his sight.

3. He shall come down like showers
Upon the fruitful earth;
Love, joy, and hope, like flowers,
Spring in his path to birth.
Before him on the mountains,
Shall peace, the herald, go,
And righteousness, in fountains,
From hill to valley flow.

4. Kings shall fall down before Him,
And gold and incense bring;
All nations shall adore Him,
His praise all people sing;
For He shall have dominion
O’er river, sea and shore,
Far as the eagle’s pinion
Or dove’s light wing can soar.

5. O’er every foe victorious,
He on His throne shall rest;
From age to age more glorious,
All blessing and all blest.
The tide of time shall never
His covenant remove;
His Name shall stand forever,
His Name to us is Love.

Meter: 76 76 D. Lyricist: James Montgomery (1771 – 1854) based on Psalm 72. Public Domain.

All Things Bright And Beautiful (Royal Oak – 5 verses) – Organ

All Things Bright And Beautiful Lyrics

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colours,
and made their tiny wings.
(Refrain)

The purple-headed mountains,
the river running by,
the sunset and the morning
that brightens up the sky.
(Refrain)

The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden:
God made them every one.
(Refrain)

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows for our play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather ev’ry day.
(Refrain)

God gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty,
who has made all things well.
(Refrain)

Meter: 76 76 and Refrain. Lyrics by Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander (1818 – 1895). Public Domain.

All Creatures Of Our God And King (Lasst Uns Erfreuen -7 Verses) – Organ

All Creatures Of Our God And King Lyrics

1. All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voices, let us sing:
alleluia, alleluia!
Bright brother sun with golden beams,
clear sister moon with softer gleams,
O praise him, O praise him,
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

2. Swift rushing winds, so wild and strong,
high clouds that sail in heavens along.
O praise him, alleluia!
New-breaking morn, in praise rejoice,
and lights of evening, find a voice:
Refrain.

3. Cool flowing water, pure and clear,
make music for your Lord to hear,
alleluia, alleluia!
Fire, with your flames so fierce and bright,
giving to all both warmth and light:
Refrain.

4. Dear mother earth, who day by day
unfolds God’s blessings on our way,
O praise him, alleluia!
All flowers and fruits that in you grow,
let them his glory also show:
Refrain.

5. And all who are of tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part,
O praise him, alleluia!
All who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and cast on him your care:
Refrain.

6. And you, most kind and gentle death,
waiting to hush our final breath,
O praise him, alleluia!
You homeward lead the child of God,
and Christ our Lord the way has trod:
Refrain.

7. Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship God in humbleness,
O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, Three in One:
Refrain.

Meter: 88 44 88 and Alleluias. Lyrics by William Henry Draper (1855 – 1933) based on the “Cantico di Frate Sole” of St Francis of Assisi (1182 – 1226). Public Domain.
