A Love Song Soothes My Soul So : Lyrics
1. A love song soothes my soul so:
When spring flow’rs start to grow,
And bees court, like striped bride-grooms,
To fragrant lilac, rose perfumed;
This love song so bright
It wings my soul to heaven,
I hear the voice of God’s creation,
And work His holy garden.
2.His beauty seen in petals,
His Spirit, with birds nestles,
Hymns sung by nature’s choir-boys,
He gifts us both with grace and joy!
This love song so bright
It wings my soul to heaven,
I hear the voice of God’s creation,
And work His holy garden.
3.A gift then is a garden,
Ev’n-as winter hardens,
The cycle of life and death
Reflects that we shall resurrect!
This love song so bright
It wings my soul to heaven,
I hear the voice of God’s creation,
And work His holy garden.

Description
When spring comes around I am always amazed by the emergence of new life in the garden. Spring in particular is a time when the beauty of the Earth is at its best. Not only do the flowering bulbs, like daffodils and tulips appear to delight us, but each tree becomes leafed in a different green. Bees court flowers to make honey and the songbirds become nature’s choristers. I find the garden so inspiring and a reflection of life in general with its cycle of birth, harvest, death and rebirth. Hence, “A Love Song Soothes My Soul” is a reflection of the wonder of God’s creation.
I dedicated the hymn to my sister, Suzi (see suzi-irwin.co.uk) who changed career to become a garden designer, and so the song has become known as The Gardener’s Hymn. I hope it inspires gardeners everywhere.
