Bendith Cariad Pur

Fe gawn fendith cariad pur,
Ganwyd ni yn blant ein Tad;
Nawr tra’n aros am y nef
Gweithiwn drosto ym mhob gwlad.
Bendith ddaw o’r Ysbryd Glân,
Cysur ac arweiniad llawn;
Arwain ddefaid coll at Grist
Gorffwys ynddo ef a gawn.

Yn ei deyrnas drwy y byd,
Ysbryd Sanctaidd rho yn awr;
Calon llawn o gariad Crist,
Nerth i’w ddilyn ef bob awr.
Etifeddion gyda’r Mab,
Unwyd, cadwyd trwy ei waed;
Gras a bendith cariad mawr
Sy’n ein haros wrth ei draed.

We’re Blessed By The Purest Love (Salzburg, Organ and Trumpet, 2 Verses)

We’re Blessed By The Purest Love : Lyrics

We’re blessed by the purest love,
Reborn to a royal birth,
Now, whilst we wait here for heav’n,
We will serve our Lord on earth.
We’re blessed by the Holy Ghost,
As our Comforter and Guide;
He will lead lost sheep to Christ,
Our dear Lord to rest beside.

In His kingdom here on earth,
Holy Spirit in our heart;
We’re blessed by the Saviour’s love,
With the gifts to play our part.
Joint heirs with our Lord in heav’n,
Joined firm through His saving grace;
We are blessed by God’s great love,
Whilst in heav’n He keeps our place.

Lord We Humbly Bow (Piano and Flute, 3 Verses)

Lord We Humbly Bow : Lyrics

Lord, we humbly bow in awe of You,
And we kneel in joy before your Throne,
We can hear the choirs of angels sing,
As creation worships You alone.
So with joy we will sing,
We will praise Your name,
And we will bow low on bended knee;
We will sing songs of praise,
We will worship You,
We will praise You for setting us free!

We’ll proclaim You Saviour, Lord and King,
We will worship You as hands we raise;
Give You glory on the mountain top,
Singing songs of eve-lasting praise.
Refrain.

‘Til we lay our worship at Your feet,
And in heav’n our songs of joy we sing,
We will serve You here on Earth below,
And proclaim You our Saviour and King!
Refrain.

O Holy Ghost Thy Peoples Bless (St Timothy, Organ, 6 Verses)

O Holy Ghost Thy Peoples Bless : Lyrics

1. O Holy Ghost, thy people bless
Who long to feel thy might,
And fain would grow in holiness
As children of the light.

2. To thee we bring, who art the Lord,
Ourselves to be thy throne;
Let ev’ry thought and deed and word
Thy pure dominion own.

3. Life-giving Spirit, o’er us move,
As on the formless deep;
Give life and order, light and love,
where now is death or sleep.

4. Great gift of our ascended King,
His saving truth reveal;
Our tongues inspire His praise to sing,
Our hearts his love to feel.

5. True wind of heav’n, from south or north,
For joy or chast’ning, blow;
The garden-spices shall spring forth
If thou wilt bid them flow.

6. O Holy Ghost, of sev’nfold might,
All graces come from thee;
Grant us to know and serve aright
One God in Persons Three.

Hark The Glad Sound! (Bristol, Organ, 4 Verses)

Hark The Glad Sound : Lyrics

Hark, the glad sound! The Saviour comes,
The Saviour promised long!
Let ev’ry heart prepare a throne,
And ev’ry voice a song.

He comes the pris’ners to release,
In Satan’s bondage held;
The gates of brass before Him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

He comes the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding soul to cure,
And with the treasures of His grace
T’enrich the humbled poor.

Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim;
And heav’n’s eternal arches ring
With Thy beloved Name.

In Candle Glow Most Sacred (Nimrod -2 Verses) – SATB & Organ

In Candle Glow Most Sacred : Lyrics

In candle glow most sacred the Spirit rises,
Hovers, blesses one and all who gather here to pray.
Here to pray to God almighty,
Creator, splendid Mother of all,
Who gave birth to moon and sun.
Whose Spirit breathes living breath
To all who trust in Thee.
We who seek for Thee
Find comfort in the soul.

With divine light so holy,
Rises the great Holy Spirit,
Companion at times of peril,
Comforter and dearest friend.
Consoler of hearts,
Lover of our souls,
Creator, Saviour.
We sing to You our joy!
Amen.

History

Edward Elgar completed his Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, known more commonly as the Enigma Variations, in February 1899. There were fourteen in all, based on an original theme dedicated by Elgar “to my friends pictured within”.

Using the term “Enigma” Elgar has caused much speculation as to whether there is a hidden melody within the piece.

The 9th variation “Nimrod” is used here in this anthem and refers to Augustus J. Jaeger, a music editor and close friend of Elgar’s, known for giving the composer critical advice and help with his compositions. Nimrod is described in the Old Testament as “a mighty hunter before the Lord”, Jäger is the German for hunter.

Nimrod has become popular in its own right, often played at British funerals, memorial services, and other solemn occasions, including the National Service of Remembrance.

Our hearts are low with grief.
Scattered, yet together,
We await Your sweet relief.

Amidst moments of despair.
Scattered, yet together,
You will answer fervent prayer!
Fervent prayer! Fervent prayer!

5. Scattered, yet together,
We hear Your gentle whisper:
My peace I give to you,
I will forsake You never.
Give My peace! Give My peace!

6. Scattered, yet together,

New life without knowing death.
Holy Breath! Holy Breath!

I Am Shaking : Lyrics

Meter 87 87 D.

1. I’m shaking, shaking, shaking
Up the Heaven and the Earth;
There’s a falling, falling, falling
Like the world has never seen!
And the world is shaking, shaking,
By the mighty hand of God,
That is writing, writing, writing
All our deeds upon the wall.

2. Hope is standing in the rubble
Of the shaking, shaking, shake
Witnessing the stripping, stripping
Of the multi-layers of fake;
And the hand of God is writing
All our deeds upon the wall
While powerful knees are bending
To the greatest ONE of all!

3. Hope takes comfort in the shaking
Of the structures of the world!
There is beauty in destruction:
Stripping, falling, stripping stripped
To reclaim, rebuild, and restore
The Kingdom of our Maker,
Who can never, never falter
Our Creator, Redeemer!

It refers to biblical texts from by Haggai 2:6-7 and Hebrews 12:27 (see below). Verna has edited and written several books  and other publications  including,  Poetic Prayers: Where Cultures Meet, 1999; Methodism: 200 years of Witness 1810-2010, 2010; Land Acquisition by Virgin Islanders, 2000; This Land: A Trust From God,  2014; and Funintun’s Christmas: traditional Christmas Customs of the BVI.

Played here by a Piano and Flute with Oboe and Violin. It was recorded and produced by Richard Irwin.

Haggai 2:6-7

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.

Hebrews 12:27

27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
