News Defying Expectation (Stenka Razin – 3 Verses) – Piano Ensemble

News Defying Expectation ~ Lyrics

News defying expectation,
Mystery compounds their fear.
Hear the bombshell exclamation:
“Grave is empty – He’s not there!”

Wrestling with this information,
In bereavement’s dark despair,
Searching for an explanation:
“Where’s His body – where, O where?”

Far beyond imagination,
More than boldest thought or prayer,
Cause for joyous celebration:
“Christ is risen! He is here!”

Metre:  87 87. Words by Hugh G Wetmore © Easter 2002. Inspired by the Resurrection narrative against the background of Ephesians 3:20. CCLI Song ID for ‘Easter Surprise’ is 4713687. Words used with permission.

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Easter Hymn – 6 Verses) – Organ

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today ~ Lyrics

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!

O Dearest Jesus (Herzliebster Jesus) – Organ

Lyrics ~ 15 verses

Suitable for: Lent, Passiontide, Good Friday

1. O dearest Jesus, what law hast Thou broken
That such sharp sentence should on Thee be spoken?
Of what great crime hast Thou to make confession,
What dark transgression?

2. They crown Thy head with thorns, they smite, they scourge Thee;
With cruel mockings to the cross they urge Thee;
They give Thee gall to drink, they still decry Thee;
They crucify Thee.

3. Whence come these sorrows, whence this mortal anguish?
It is my sins for which Thou, Lord, must languish;
Yea, all the wrath, the woe, Thou dost inherit,
This I do merit.

4. What punishment so strange is suffered yonder!
The Shepherd dies for sheep that loved to wander;
The Master pays the debt His servants owe Him,
Who would not know Him.

5. The sinless Son of God must die in sadness;
The sinful child of man may live in gladness;
Man forfeited his life and is acquitted;
God is committed.

6. There was no spot in me by sin untainted;
Sick with sin’s poison, all my heart had fainted;
My heavy guilt to hell had well-nigh brought me,
Such woe it wrought me.

7. O wondrous love, whose depth no heart hath sounded,
That brought Thee here, by foes and thieves surrounded!
All worldly pleasures, heedless, I was trying
While Thou wert dying.

8. O mighty King, no time can dim Thy glory!
How shall I spread abroad Thy wondrous story?
How shall I find some worthy gifts to proffer?
What dare I offer?

9. For vainly doth our human wisdom ponder—-
Thy woes, Thy mercy, still transcend our wonder.
Oh, how should I do aught that could delight Thee!
Can I requite Thee?

10. Yet unrequited, Lord, I would not leave Thee;
I will renounce whate’er doth vex or grieve Thee
And quench with thoughts of Thee and prayers most lowly
All fires unholy.

11. But since my strength will nevermore suffice me
To crucify desires that still entice me,
To all good deeds, oh, let Thy Spirit win me
And reign within me!

12. I’ll think upon Thy mercy without ceasing,
That earth’s vain joys to me no more be pleasing;
To do Thy will shall be my sole endeavor
Henceforth forever.

13. Whate’er of earthly good this life may grant me.
I’ll risk for Thee; no shame, no cross, shall daunt me.
I shall not fear what man can do to harm me
Nor death alarm me.

14. But worthless is my sacrifice, I own it;
Yet, Lord, for love’s sake Thou wilt not disown it;
Thou wilt accept my gift in Thy great meekness
Nor shame my weakness.

15. And when, dear Lord, before Thy throne in heaven
To me the crown of joy at last is given,
Where sweetest hymns Thy saints forever raise Thee,
I, too, shall praise Thee.

The Lord Is Risen Indeed (Narenza – 5 verses) – Organ

Lyrics – 5 verses

Suggested uses: Easter Sunday

The Lord is ris’n indeed,
And are the tidings true?
Yes, we beheld the Saviour bleed,
And saw Him living too.

The Lord is ris’n indeed,
Then justice asks no more;
Mercy and Truth are now agreed,
Who stood opposed before.

The Lord is ris’n indeed,
Then is the work performed;
The captive surely now is freed,
And death, our foe, disarmed.

The Lord is ris’n indeed,
Attending angels hear;
Up to the courts of heav’n, with speed,
The joyful tidings bear.

Then take your golden lyres,
And strike each cheerful chord;
Join all the bright celestial choirs
To sing our risen Lord.

Sing Out Your Praises To Our King (Easter Song – 4 verses) – Organ

Lyrics – 4 verses

Suggested uses: Easter Sunday

Sing out your praises to our king
This happy Easter day!
Lift up your voice and join the throng
That praises God to-day!

We celebrate the risen Lord
With heart and voice and soul;
For He has overcome the grave
So we can be made whole.

His victory is our to share,
His prize is ours to claim!
Now we can spend eternity
Praising His hold name!

So now with joyful hearts
Sing loud and true and long.
Celebrate this glorious day,
With thankful praise and song.

Have You Heard The News Of Jesus (Have You Heard – 4 verses) – Organ

Lyrics – 4 verses

Suggested uses: Easter Sunday

Have you heard the news of Jesus,
How he came the lost to save;
Dying on the tree of vict’ry
Overcoming death and grave?

Now we celebrate that Vict’ry
On this glorious Easter Day!
Praising Christ, the blessed Saviour,
He’s the Truth, the life, the Way.

Praise Him now, in celebration
Of His vict’ry over sin;
He has overcome the darkness,
Letting light come flooding in.

Lift your voices now in worship
On this sacred Day of Days:
Glorify our blesséd Saviour,
Sing in everlasting praise!

Oft In Danger, Oft In Woe (University College) – Organ

Lyrics – 5 verses

Suitable for: Lent, Pilgrimage

Oft in danger, oft in woe,
Onward, Christians, onward go;
Bear the toil, maintain the strife,
Strengthened with the bread of life.

Onward, Christians, onward go,
Join the war, and face the foe;
Will ye flee in danger’s hour?
Know ye not your Captain’s power?

Let not sorrow dim your eye;
Soon shall every tear be dry:
Let not fears your course impede;
Great your strength, if great your need.

Let your drooping hearts be glad;
March in heavenly armour clad;
Fight, nor think the battle long:
Soon shall victory wake your song.

Onward then in battle move;
More than conquerors ye shall prove:
Though opposed by many a foe,
Christian soldiers, onward go.

Thy Will Be Done, The Saviour Said – Organ

Lyrics – 4 verses

Suitable for: Lent, Passiontide, Maundy Thursday

Thy will be done, the Saviour said,
and bowed to earth his sacred head,
the sands of life had nearly run,
my Father, let thy will be done,
thy will, not mine, be done.

No watch his spent disciples kept,
amid the shadows deep they slept;
but silent angels waiting there,
beheld his agony of prayer –
thy will, not mine, be done.

His soul foresaw the cruel scorns,
the brutal scourge, the crown of thorns,
and, darker than Gethsemane,
the shadows of th’ accursed tree –
thy will, not mine, be done.

What though he felt in that dread hour,
the storms of human passions low’r;
nor pain, nor death, his soul would shun,
my Father, let thy will be done,
thy will, not mine, be done.

Lyrics: Henry Shapcott Bunce (1854 – 1917) ,writing as Shapcott Wensley
