Dr Henry Van Dyke (1852 – 1933) was an American writer and poet, Professor of English and Presbyterian Minister born in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Princeton University in 1873 he attended Princeton Theological Seminary until 1877. He was appointed a professor of English literature at Princeton between 1899 and 1923. Between 1908-09 he lectured at the University of Paris. President Wilson made him Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg in 1913. He received many honours and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Van Dyke chaired the committee that wrote the first Presbyterian printed liturgy, “The Book of Common Worship” of 1906. Other works include:
