How Firm A Foundation : Lyrics

1. How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in his excellent Word!
What more can he say than to you he has said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

2. “Fear not, I am with you; O be not dismayed,
For I am your God, and will still give you aid.
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.”

3. “When through the deep waters I call you to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow,
For I will be with you, your troubles to bless,
And sanctify to you the deepest distress.”

4. “When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be your supply.
The flames shall not hurt you. I only design
Your dross to consume, and your gold to refine.”

5. “The soul that on Jesus still leans for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes.
That soul, though all hell should endeavour to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!”

  1. I am writing a book entitled Good Mourning? Good Morning! At the end of each chapter I have included two hymns my deceased husband loved, to encourage readers to draw strength and comfort from them in their grief journey. There seem to be four different versions. The one familiar to him and myself is no. 527 in Common praise 1998 St Denio alternate, for the hymn ‘How Firm a Foundation’ but I can only access instrumental. Is possible to put on youtube vocals and instrumental?
I am only using URL links and the title of the hymns to avoid plagiarism where there are modern hymns, not those covered by public domain. I would be grateful if you could help me out soon. Thanks. Robyn Bradley

    1. Dear Robyn

Thank you for your comment. In general we have very few hymns with vocals sung to the tune. There are two reasons: 1, the recordings are designed to accompany singers during church services. 2, This is really a matter of cost, as recording singers is quite expensive, some £100s per time to pay for the singers and recording studio. I would be happy to be able to do more when we can afford it.

Best of luck with your book.

      Joy and blessings

      Richard
