Horatius Bonar (1808-1889) was a poet, Christian author and Minister in the Presbyterian Free Church of Scotland, becoming Moderator of the General Assembly in 1883. Born and educated in Edinburgh, he was the son of James Bonar, Solicitor of Excise for Scotland. He wrote over 140 hymns.
