Mr Richards was a Headteacher at the East End Methodist School (EEMS), Tortola, British Virgin Isles, in 1926 when he wrote the Hymn “Lord Of The Harvest”

The East End Methodist School was one of the many denominational schools in BVI, managed by Ministers of religion and financed by Government grants during the 19th century. The East End Methodist Church literally became the School Room during the week, until the 1960s, when Government took greater responsibility for management and building schools. The EEMS was fortunate to have been tutored by several musically talented Headteachers in the early years.
