I Am Shaking : Lyrics

Alternative settings of I Am Shaking

1. I’m shaking, shaking, shaking
Up the Heaven and the Earth;
There’s a falling, falling, falling
Like the world has never seen!
And the world is shaking, shaking,
By the mighty hand of God,
That is writing, writing, writing
All our deeds upon the wall.

2. Hope is standing in the rubble
Of the shaking, shaking, shake
Witnessing the stripping, stripping
Of the multi-layers of fake;
And the hand of God is writing
All our deeds upon the wall
While powerful knees are bending
To the greatest ONE of all!

3. Hope takes comfort in the shaking
Of the structures of the world!
There is beauty in destruction:
Stripping, falling, stripping stripped
To reclaim, rebuild, and restore
The Kingdom of our Maker,
Who can never, never falter
Our Creator, Redeemer!

Description

“I Am Shaking, Shaking, Shaking” is one of a series of hymns written by Virgin Island author, Verna Penn Moll. It was inspired by the global chaos surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. It refers to biblical texts from by Haggai 2:6-7 and Hebrews 12:27 (see below). Verna has edited and written several books  and other publications  including,  Poetic Prayers: Where Cultures Meet, 1999; Methodism: 200 years of Witness 1810-2010, 2010; Land Acquisition by Virgin Islanders, 2000; This Land: A Trust From God,  2014; and Funintun’s Christmas: traditional Christmas Customs of the BVI.

“I Am Shaking, Shaking, Shaking” has been set to a new tune by Richard Irwin, called “Draycot”, named after the hamlet of Draycot Foliat on the beautiful Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire, England where the composer lives. Played here by a Piano and Flute with Oboe and Violin. It was recorded and produced by Richard Irwin.

Haggai 2:6-7

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.

Hebrews 12:27

27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
