Friederich Filitz (1804-1876)

Dr Friederich Filitz (1804-1876) was a German composer, music critic and historian. He was born in Arnstadt, Thuringia and worked both in Berlin and München. He studied for PhD in Philosophy. He became the editor of “Vierstimmiges Choralbuch zu Kirchen – und Hausgebrauch”, and also wrote four-part settings for Bunsen’s “Allgemeine Gesang – und Gebetbuch”. He collaborated with Ludwig Erk in editing many chorals of from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. He died in Bonn, 1876.
