The tune is sometimes called “Grenoble” and was published in France in the Grenoble Antiphoner of 1753 as a setting for “Deus Tuorum Militum” (“The God of Your Soldiers”). This is considered one of the finest 18 century French tunes and represents a departure in Roman Catholic hymnody from the older chant style.
