MoreThomas Ken (1637-1711)
Thomas Ken (1637-1711) was an English Anglican Bishop who is considered on of the father’s of English hymnody. He was born at Berkhampsted, Hertfordshire, and died near Warminster, Wiltshire.
He became royal chaplain to Charles II of England, and was one of seven bishops who in 1688 opposed James II’s Declaration of Indulgence, which was designed to promote Roman Catholicism.
