Patrick Appleford (1925-2018)
Patrick Appleford (1925-2018) was a British musician who with Geoffrey Beaumont (1903 – 1970) founded the 20th Century Church Light Music Group at Cambridge, where he found his vocation when at Trinity College. He studied for the ministry at Chichester and served his first curacy at All Saints Poplar, in the East End of London from 1952-1958. There he wrote pantomimes for the youth club and his first hymns. His works include:
Mass of Five Melodies, scored for unison voices and piano (pub. Josef Weinberger).
New English Mass, scored for SATB chorus and piano (pub. Josef Weinberger).
Six Hymns for All Seasons, scored for unison voices and piano (pub. Josef Weinberger).
The hymn Lord Jesus Christ, perhaps his best-known tune, said to be inspired by Cliff Richard’s early pop songs (pub. Josef Weinberger)
