Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley (1825-1889) was an English composer, organist, musicologist and priest. He was educated at Oxford where he became Professor of Music in 1855, the same year in which he was made Precentor of Hereford Cathedral, a post he held for 30 years.
In 1856 Ouseley both founded and endowed with his own funds St Michael’s College on the outskirts of Tenbury Wells, a choir school intended to serve as a model for Anglican church music. Of his students the most famous is probably Sir John Stainer (1840 – 1901).
