Dearest Jesu We Are Here (Liebster Jesu, Organ, 2 Verses)

Dearest Jesu We Are Here : Lyrics

1. Dearest Jesu, we are here,
At thy call, thy presence owning;
Pleading now in holy fear
That great sacrifice atoning:
Word incarnate, much in wonder
On this mystery deep we ponder.

2. Jesu, strong to save — the same
Yesterday, today, for ever —
Make us fear and love thy name,
Serving thee with best endeavour:
In this life, O ne’er forsake us,
But to bliss hereafter take us.

Meter: 78 78 88. George Ratciffe Woodward (1848-1934) based on the German original by Tobias Clausnitzer (1619-1684).

O My Saviour Lifted (North Coates, Organ, 5 Verses)

O My Saviour Lifted : Lyrics

This recording of has been made to accompany singers in Church Services.

1. O my Saviour, lifted
From the earth for me,
Draw me, in thy mercy,
Nearer unto thee.

2. Lift my earth-bound longings,
Fix them, Lord, above;
Draw me with the magnet
Of thy mighty love.

3. Lord, thine arms are stretching
Ever far and wide,
To enfold thy children
To thy loving side.

4. And I come, O Jesus:
Dare I turn away?
No, thy love hath conquered,
And I come today.

5. Bringing all my burdens,
Sorrow, sin and care;
At thy feet I lay them,
And I leave them there.

Mother Of Mercy (Mater Misericoriae – 6 Verses) – Organ

Mother Of Mercy Lyrics

1. Mother of Mercy! day by day
My love of thee grows more and more;
Thy gifts are strewn upon my way
Like sands upon the great sea-shore.
Like sands upon the great sea-shore.

2. Though poverty and work and woe
The masters of my life may be,
When times are worst, who does not know
Darkness is light with love of thee?
Darkness is light with love of thee?

3. But scornful men have coldly said
Thy love was leading me from God;
And yet in this I did but tread
The very path my Saviour trod.
The very path my Saviour trod.

4. They know but little of thy worth
Who speak these heartless words to me;
For what did Jesus love on earth
One half so tenderly as thee?
One half so tenderly as thee?

5. Get me the grace to love thee more;
Jesus will give if thou wilt plead;
And, Mother! when life’s cares are o’er,
O I shall love thee then indeed!
O I shall love thee then indeed!

6. Jesus, when His three hours were run,
Bequeath’d thee from the cross to me;
And O! how can I love thy Son,
Sweet Mother! if I love not thee?
Sweet Mother! if I love not thee?

Lead Us Father Gently (Foliat House, Piano Ensemble, 3 Verses)

Lead Us Father Gently : Lyrics

Lead us, Father, gently lead us
From all empty pride;
Save us, Lord, from sole ambition,
Let us follow Your direction.

Lead us, Father, gently lead us
From a mere foothill
Of our predestined vocation,
According to Your precious will.

Lead us, Father, gently lead us
By Thy light divine;
Protect us from sin’s destruction,
Guide us by Your true reflection.

O Dearest Jesus (Herzliebster Jesus, Organ, 15 verses)

O Dearest Jesus What Law Hast Thou broken : Lyrics

Suitable for: Lent, Passiontide, Good Friday

1. O dearest Jesus, what law hast Thou broken
That such sharp sentence should on Thee be spoken?
Of what great crime hast Thou to make confession,
What dark transgression?

2. They crown Thy head with thorns, they smite, they scourge Thee;
With cruel mockings to the cross they urge Thee;
They give Thee gall to drink, they still decry Thee;
They crucify Thee.

3. Whence come these sorrows, whence this mortal anguish?
It is my sins for which Thou, Lord, must languish;
Yea, all the wrath, the woe, Thou dost inherit,
This I do merit.

4. What punishment so strange is suffered yonder!
The Shepherd dies for sheep that loved to wander;
The Master pays the debt His servants owe Him,
Who would not know Him.

5. The sinless Son of God must die in sadness;
The sinful child of man may live in gladness;
Man forfeited his life and is acquitted;
God is committed.

6. There was no spot in me by sin untainted;
Sick with sin’s poison, all my heart had fainted;
My heavy guilt to hell had well-nigh brought me,
Such woe it wrought me.

7. O wondrous love, whose depth no heart hath sounded,
That brought Thee here, by foes and thieves surrounded!
All worldly pleasures, heedless, I was trying
While Thou wert dying.

8. O mighty King, no time can dim Thy glory!
How shall I spread abroad Thy wondrous story?
How shall I find some worthy gifts to proffer?
What dare I offer?

9. For vainly doth our human wisdom ponder—-
Thy woes, Thy mercy, still transcend our wonder.
Oh, how should I do aught that could delight Thee!
Can I requite Thee?

10. Yet unrequited, Lord, I would not leave Thee;
I will renounce whate’er doth vex or grieve Thee
And quench with thoughts of Thee and prayers most lowly
All fires unholy.

11. But since my strength will nevermore suffice me
To crucify desires that still entice me,
To all good deeds, oh, let Thy Spirit win me
And reign within me!

12. I’ll think upon Thy mercy without ceasing,
That earth’s vain joys to me no more be pleasing;
To do Thy will shall be my sole endeavor
Henceforth forever.

13. Whate’er of earthly good this life may grant me.
I’ll risk for Thee; no shame, no cross, shall daunt me.
I shall not fear what man can do to harm me
Nor death alarm me.

14. But worthless is my sacrifice, I own it;
Yet, Lord, for love’s sake Thou wilt not disown it;
Thou wilt accept my gift in Thy great meekness
Nor shame my weakness.

15. And when, dear Lord, before Thy throne in heaven
To me the crown of joy at last is given,
Where sweetest hymns Thy saints forever raise Thee,
I, too, shall praise Thee.

Meter: 11 11 11 5. Originally a German hymn by Johann Heermann (1585 – 1647), translated by Catherine Winkworth (1827 – 1878), this contemplative hymns is often used on Good Friday.. Public Domain.

Oft In Danger, Oft In Woe (University College, Organ, 5 Verses)

Oft In Danger, Oft In Woe : Lyrics

Oft in danger, oft in woe,
Onward, Christians, onward go;
Bear the toil, maintain the strife,
Strengthened with the bread of life.

Onward, Christians, onward go,
Join the war, and face the foe;
Will ye flee in danger’s hour?
Know ye not your Captain’s power?

Let not sorrow dim your eye;
Soon shall every tear be dry:
Let not fears your course impede;
Great your strength, if great your need.

Let your drooping hearts be glad;
March in heavenly armour clad;
Fight, nor think the battle long:
Soon shall victory wake your song.

Onward then in battle move;
More than conquerors ye shall prove:
Though opposed by many a foe,
Christian soldiers, onward go.

Thy Will Be Done, The Saviour Said (Organ, 4 Verses)

Thy Will Be Done, The Saviour Said : Lyrics

Thy will be done, the Saviour said,
and bowed to earth his sacred head,
the sands of life had nearly run,
my Father, let thy will be done,
thy will, not mine, be done.

No watch his spent disciples kept,
amid the shadows deep they slept;
but silent angels waiting there,
beheld his agony of prayer –
thy will, not mine, be done.

His soul foresaw the cruel scorns,
the brutal scourge, the crown of thorns,
and, darker than Gethsemane,
the shadows of th’ accursed tree –
thy will, not mine, be done.

What though he felt in that dread hour,
the storms of human passions low’r;
nor pain, nor death, his soul would shun,
my Father, let thy will be done,
thy will, not mine, be done.

Jesu Thou Joy Of Loving Hearts (Ealing – 5 verses) – Organ

Jesu Thou Joy Of Loving Hearts Lyrics

Suitable for: Communion, Eucharist, Lent

1. O Jesus, joy of loving hearts,
Thou fount of life, thou light of men,
From fullest bliss that earth imparts
We turn unfilled to thee again.

2. Thy truth unchanged has ever stood,
Thou savest those that on thee call;
To them that seek thee, thou art good,
To them that find thee, all in all.

3. We taste thee, O thou living bread,
And long to feast upon thee still;
We drink of thee, the fountainhead,
And thirst our souls from thee to fill.

4. Our restless spirits yearn for thee,
Where’er our changeful lot is cast,
Glad that thy gracious smile we see,
Blest that our faith can hold thee fast.

5. O Jesus, ever with us stay,
Make all our moments calm and bright;
Chase the dark night of sin away,
Shed o’er the world thy holy light.

O Breath Of Life (Spiritus Vitae – 4 Verses) – Organ

O Breath Of Life Lyrics

This recording has been made to accompany singers in Church Services.

O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
revive your church with life and pow’r;
O Breath of Life, come, cleanse, renew us,
and fit your church to meet this hour.

O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,
till humbly we confess our need;
then in your tenderness remake us,
revive, restore, for this we plead.

O Breath of love, come breathe within us,
renewing thought and will and heart;
come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us,
revive your church in ev’ry part.

Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating
while harvest fields are vast and white?
Revive us, Lord, the world is waiting,
equip your church to spread the light.

God That Madest Earth And Heaven (Ar Hyd Y Nos – 2 Verses) – Organ

God That Madest Earth And Heaven Lyrics

God, who made the earth and heaven,
Darkness and light:
You the day for work have given,
For rest the night.
May your angel guards defend us,
Slumber sweet your mercy send us,
Holy dreams and hopes attend us,
All through the night.

Guard us waking, guard us sleeping,
And, when we die,
May we in your mighty keeping
All peaceful lie.
When the trumpet’s call shall wake us,
Then, O Lord, do not forsake us,
But to reign in glory take us
With you on high.
