Let Us With A Gladsome Mind (Monkland – 7 verses) – Organ

Let Us With A Gladsome Mind ~ Lyrics

1. Let us, with a gladsome mind,
Praise the Lord, for He is kind:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

2. Let us blaze His Name abroad,
For of gods He is the God:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

3. He with all-commanding might
Filled the new-made world with light:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

4. All things living He doth feed;
His full hand supplies their need:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

5. He His chosen race did bless
In the wasteful wilderness:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

6. He hath with a pious eye
Looks upon our misery:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

7. Let us therefore warble forth
His high majesty and worth:
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

Meter: 77 77. Lyrics by John Milton (1608 – 1674). Based upon Psalm 136. Public Domain.

Psalm 136

Let Us With A Gladsome Mind was written by John Milton in 1623 when the poet was just 15 years old and a pupil at St. Paul’s School, London. It is a paraphrase of Psalm 136.

1. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:

The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever:

The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

10 To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever:

11 And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever:

12 With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever.

13 To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever:

14 And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever:

15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever.

16 To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever.

17 To him which smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever:

18 And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever:

19 Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever:

20 And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever:

21 And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever:

22 Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever.

23 Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever:

24 And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever.

25 Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.

26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Easter Hymn – 6 Verses) – Organ

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today ~ Lyrics

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!

Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days (Saint Flavian – 5 verses) – Organ

Lyrics – 5 verses

Suitable for: Lent, Passiontide

Lord, who throughout these forty days,
For us did fast and pray,
Teach us with you to mourn our sins,
And close by you to stay.

As you with Satan did contend,
And did the vict’ry win,
O give us strength in you to fight,
In you to conquer sin.

As you did hunger bear and thirst,
So teach us, gracious Lord,
To die to self, and always live
By your most holy word.

And through these days of penitence,
And through your Passiontide,
Forevermore, in life and death,
O Lord, with us abide.

Abide with us that when this life
Of suffering is past,
An Easter of unending joy
We may attain at last!

Lord Jesus In Your Mercy (Cara) – Organ

Lyrics – 4 verses

Lord Jesus in Your mercy,
Through each and ev’ry day,
I’ll always praise and serve You,
Please hear me when I pray.

I’ll talk with You each morning,
And speak with You each night,
When You call me I’ll answer,
Help me to win the fight.

All that You ask me Saviour,
Help me through ev’ry day;
And most of all, my plea is
‘Hear me when I pray.’

O, hear me Lord, and answer
According to Your word;
Then may the Spirit prompt me,
When Your still voice I’ve heard.

Let the church bells ring out (Moody – 3 verses) – Organ

Lyrics

Let the church bells ring out ‘cross the Earth,
To tell the world of the Saviour’s birth.
The joyful songs by the people sung,
proclaim the birth of the holy One.

Star shining bright at the ending day,
Led men to where the infant Christ lay,
They worshipped Him in those days of old,
With their gifts of myrrh, incense and gold.

Still we today, with a joyful cry,
Lift hearts to voices up to the sky,
The bells that ring out across the earth,
Proclim the news of the Saviour’s birth.

Angels Are Singing (Emmanuel Now) – Piano and SATB or Woodwind and Strings

Lyrics

1. Angels are singing high up in heaven,
Church bells are ringing on earth down below.
The world’s celebrating the birth of the Christchild.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
His glory does show.

2. Shepherds in fields were watching and waiting.
God’s angel singing, and all hea-vens ring.
He told them how God’s light would banish the dark-ness.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
All worship the king!

3. Bright star is shining high in the night sky.
Stopped o’er the stable where Jesus, He lay.
The babe in the manger, God’s love and God’s glory.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
All fol-low the star.

4. Softly and gently, Mary is singing,
We kneel to praise Him with Kings from afar.
The oxen are lowing, as all join in worship.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
Asleep in the hay.

5. Lifting our voices, we sing out praises
With heav’nly choirs our worship we bring.
We tell the great story of Jesus the Saviour.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
We worship our King!

Emmanuel, Emmanuel Emmanuel, Emmanuel now,
We worship our King!

Ye Servants Of God (Paderborn – 4 Verses) – Organ

Lyrics ~ 4 verses

Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,
And publish abroad his wonderful name;
The name all-victorious of Jesus extol;
His kingdom is glorious and rules over all.

God rules in the height, almighty to save;
Though hid from our sight, his presence we have;
The great congregation his triumph shall sing,
Ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

“Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!”
Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son;
The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
Fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.

Then let us adore and give him his right:
All glory and power, all wisdom and might,
All honour and blessing with angels above
And thanks never ceasing for infinite love.

Ye Servants Of The Lord (Narenza – 5 Verses) – Organ

Ye Servants Of The Lord ~ Lyrics

1. Ye servants of the Lord,
each in his office wait,
observant of his heavenly word,
and watchful at his gate.

2. Let all your lamps be bright,
and trim the golden flame;
gird up your loins as in his sight,
for aweful is his name.

3. Watch! ’tis your Lord’s command,
and while we speak, he’s near;
mark the first signal of his hand,
and ready all appear.

4. O happy servant he
in such a posture found!
he shall his Lord with rapture see,
and be with honour crowned.

5. Christ shall the banquet spread
with his own royal hand,
and raise that faithful servant’s head
amid the angelic band.

Whenever days are darkened (Merthyr Cynog) – Piano, Flute and Horn

Lyrics

Wondrous Heavenly Love. Meter: 76 86D

Whenever days are darkened
I think on Jesus’ Name:
To let the light come flooding in,
For soul’s release He came.
That blesséd Name I love to hear,
The Name that casts away my fear,
That overflows me from above:
O!  Wondrous, heavenly love!

If times I feel that I’m alone,
I think on Jesus’ Name:
To feel His gentle touch once more,
Upon this ailing frame.
That shepherd’s touch, for me He cares,
The Father’s love with me He shares,
Then overflowing from above,
O!  Wondrous, heavenly love!

When the days have brightened,
I think on Jesus’ Name:
To know He’s always with me,
Constantly the same.
Securely by my Saviour’s side,
Evermore to keep and guide,
Then overflowing from above,
Such wondrous, heavenly love!
