Now the green blade riseth (Noel Nouvelet)

Hymn – Now the green blade riseth -Lyrics

Now the green blade rises from the buried grain,
Wheat that in the dark earth many years has lain;
Love lives again, that with the dead has been:
Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green.

In the grave they laid Him, Love Whom we had slain,
Thinking that He’d never wake to life again,
Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen:
Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green.

Up He sprang at Easter, like the risen grain,
He that for three days in the grave had lain;
Up from the dead my risen Lord is seen:
Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green.

When our hearts are saddened, grieving or in pain,
By Your touch You call us back to life again;
Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been:
Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green.

O Lord, my God, I thirst for You (Kingsfold)

Hymn – O Lord, my God, I thirst for You – Lyrics

“God my Rock”

O Lord, my God, I thirst for You,
I long to see your face,
Just as the hunted deer is stressed
I falter in the race;
My heart cries out, my tears run down,
I am in deep distress,
“Where is your God?” men say to me,
They taunt me and oppress.

Lord, when will I be helped by You,
I struggle day and night?
O hear my prayer, enable me
to stand in your great might;
I look back on those days gone by
when, Lord, You were so near,
when in your house with festive throng
I praised your Name so dear.

So why am I cast down, O Lord,
and why should I feel low?
You are my God, my Saviour strong,
Your praise from me shall flow;
I think of all your works, O Lord,
Your saving power of old,
So when beset and overwhelmed,
I will your strength take hold.

Your loving-kindness fills my days,
Your song at night I sing,
And when my fears assail again
to You I’ll tightly cling;
My hope is fixed on God, my Rock,
His own He won’t forget;
Be still my soul, my face will shine
And I will praise Him yet.

This hymn is based on Psalm 42, a prayer to God in which the writer expresses his deep desire for God’s presence at a time of great distress. In my reflection on this psalm I have sought to echo the heartfelt cry of the psalmist as he moves from a sense of unexplained and painful isolation from God to a confident trust in God and in His faithfulness.

O sacred head sore wounded (Passion Chorale)

Hymn – O sacred head sore wounded – Lyrics

1. O sacred head, sore wounded,
Defiled and put to scorn;
O kingly head, surrounded
With mocking crown of thorn:
What sorrow mars Thy grandeur?
Can death Thy bloom deflow’r?
O countenance whose splendor
The hosts of heav’en adore!

2. Thy beauty, long desired,
Hath vanished from our sight;
Thy pow’r is all expired,
And quenched the light of light.
Ah me! for whom Thou diest,
Hide not so far Thy grace:
Show me, O Love most highest,
The brightness of Thy face.

3. In Thy most bitter passion
My heart to share doth cry,
With Thee for my salvation
Upon the cross to die.
Ah, keep my heart thus moved
To stand Thy cross beneath,
To mourn Thee, well-beloved,
Yet thank Thee for Thy death.

4. What language shall I borrow
To thank Thee, dearest friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow,
Thy pity without end?
Oh, make me Thine for ever!
And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never
Outlive my love for Thee.

5. My days are few, O fail not,
With Thine immortal pow’r,
To hold me that I quail not
In death’s most fearful hour;
That I may fight befriended,
And see in my last strife
To me Thine arms extended
Upon the cross of life.

O store gud

Hymn – O store gud – Lyrics

Swedish

1. O store Gud, när jag den värld beskådar,
Som du har skapat med ditt allmaktsord,
Hur där din visdom väver livets trådar,
Och alla väsen mättas vid ditt bord.

Refrain:
Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud:
O store Gud! O store Gud!
Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud:
O store Gud! O store Gud!

2. När sommarvinden susar över fälten,
När blommor dofta invid källans rand,
När trastar drilla i de gröna tälten,
Vid furuskogens tysta, dunkla rand;

3. När jag i bibeln skådar alla under,
Som Herren gjort se’n förste Adams tid,
Hur nådefull Han varit alla stunder,
Och hjälpt sitt folk ur livets synd och strid;

4. När slutligt alla tidens höljen falla,
Uti åskådning byter sig min tro,
Och evighetens klara klockor kalla,
Min frälsta ande till dess sabbatsro;

Final Refrain
Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud:
Tack store Gud! Tack store Gud!
Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud:
Tack store Gud! Tack store Gud!

Oh when the saints (The Saints) – 5 Verse

Hymn – Oh when the saints – Lyrics

Version 1

We are trav’ling in the footsteps
Of those who’ve gone before,
And we’ll all be reunited,
On a new and sunlit shore,

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

And when the sun refuse to shine
And when the sun refuse to shine
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the sun refuse to shine

And when the moon turns red with blood
And when the moon turns red with blood
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the moon turns red with blood

Oh, when the trumpet sounds its call
Oh, when the trumpet sounds its call
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the trumpet sounds its call

Some say this world of trouble,
Is the only one we need,
But I’m waiting for that morning,
When the new world is revealed.

Version 2

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

Oh when the drum begins to bang . . .

Oh when the stars fall from the skies . . .

Oh when the moon turns into blood . . .

Oh when the sun turns into fire . . .

Oh when the fire begins to blaze . . .

Oh when the Lord calls out the names . . .

praesepi ponitur
stabulo brutorum,

Bethlehem adeunt,
stellulam sequendo,

cantent ut angeli:
advenisti mundo,
laudes tibi fundo.

Wise Men three to him led;
kneel they low by his bed,
lay their gifts before him,
praise him and adore him.

praising Christ, heaven’s King,
born on earth to save us;

Hymn – Our Father who art in Heaven – Lyrics

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowéd be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, hallowéd be Thy name, hallowéd be Thy name.

On earth as it is in heaven, hallowéd be Thy name.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (Lobe Den Herren)

Hymn – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty – Lyrics

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth:
Hast thou not seen how thy heart’s wishes have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If to the end He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again,
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

Rise and shine

Hymn – Rise and shine – Lyrics

Rise and shine and give God His glory, glory.
Rise and shine and give God His glory, glory.
Rise and shine and give God His glory, glory.
Children of the Lord

1. The Lord said to Noah: ‘There’s gonna be a floody, floody,
Lord said to Noah: ‘There’s gonna be a floody, floody,
Get those children out of the muddy, muddy, children of the Lord.’
So Noah, he built Him, he built Him an arky, arky,
Noah, he built Him, he built Him an arky, arky,
Built it out of hickory barky, barky, children of the Lord. Refrain

2. The animals, they came on, they came on, by twosies, twosies,
Animals, they came on, they came on, by twosies, twosies,
Elephants and kangaroosies, roosies, children of the Lord.
It rained and poured for forty daysies, daysies,
Rained and poured for forty daysies, daysies
Nearly drove those animals crazies, crazies, children of the Lord. Refrain

3. The sun came out and dried up the landy landy,
Sun came out and dried up the landy landy,
Ev’rything was fine and dandy, dandy, children of the Lord.
If you get to heaven before I do-sies, do-sies,
You get to heaven before I do-sies, do-sies,
Tell those angels I’m comin’ too-sies, too-sies, children of the Lord. Refrain
