An Angel Appeared To The Shepherds (Brycheiniog – 4 Verses) – Piano, Flute, Horn And Cello

Lyrics

An angel appeared to the shepherds
As they tended their sheep on that night,
Foretold of the birth of the Saviour,
Who would banish the dark with His Light.

He told of a sign that would guide them
To the place where the infant would lay;
For God placed a star in the heavens
As a sign on that first Christmas Day.

So leaving their sheep far behind them,
With the star shining brightly above,
They followed the sign to a stable,
Where they worshipped God’s mercy and love.

They knelt at the altar of heaven,
All their gifts and their praises did bring,
Though they saw the tiniest baby,
All their worship was poured on a King.

Immortal love for ever full (Bishopthorpe) – Organ

Lyrics

1. Immortal Love for ever full,
For ever flowing free,
For ever shared, for ever whole,
A never-ebbing sea.

2. Our outward lips confess the name
All other names above;
Love only knoweth whence it came
And comprehendeth love.

3. We may not climb the heavenly steeps
To bring the Lord Christ down;
In vain we search the lowest deeps,
For him no depths can drown:

4. But warm, sweet, tender, even yet
A present help is he;
And faith has still its Olivet,
And love its Galilee.

5. The healing of his seamless dress
Is by our beds of pain;
We touch him in life’s throng and press,
And we are whole again.

6. Through him the first fond prayers are said
Our lips of childhood frame;
The last low whispers of our dead
Are burdened with his name.

7. Alone, O Love ineffable,
Thy saving name is given;
To turn aside from thee is hell,
To walk with thee is heaven.

New recording adventure

I spent Saturday 14th July 2018 at Skyline Studios with singer Victoria Paterson and lyricist Colin Gordon-Farleigh. Listened to by the ghosts of some famous artists. Jez Larder was our excellent sound engineer who previously worked with artists such as Simply Red and David Bowie and did the recent live DVD for Vera Lynn’s 100th Birthday celebration.

I provided the backing music for a number of tracks for Victoria’s new album. Here is a short sample from “I would really love to hold you.”  Reply if you would like to know when the full album is available.

If anyone else needs a backing track please Contact me.

All the best – Richard

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun (Truro) – Organ with Trumpet Descant

Hymn- Jesus shall reign where’er the sun – Lyrics

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
Does his successive journeys run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His Name.

Blessings abound wherever He reigns;
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains;
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blessed.

As rain on meadows newly mown,
So shall He send his influence down:
His grace on fainting souls distills,
Like heav’nly dew on thirsty hills.

Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honors to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud amen!

Jesus’ love is very wonderful (Jesus’ love) – 2 Verse

Jesus’ love is very wonderful – Lyrics

Refrain
Jesus’ love is very wonderful
Jesus’ love is very wonderful,
Jesus’ love is very wonderful,
Oh, wonderful love!

It’s so high you can’t get over it,
So low you can’t get under it,
So wide you can’t get round it,
Oh, wonderful love!

Refrain

So deep you can’t go through it,
So long you can’t see the end of it,
So strong you can’t resist it,
Oh, wonderful love!

Refrain

So bright you have to see it,
So loud you have to hear it,
So sweet you have to taste it,
Oh, wonderful love!

Judge eternal, throned in splendour (Rhuddlan)

Hymn – Ah, holy Jesu, how hast thou offended – Lyrics

Judge eternal, throuned in splendour,
Lord of lords and King of kings,
with thy living fire of judgement
purge this realm of bitter things:
solace all its wide dominion
with the healing of thy wings.

Still the weary folk are pining
for the hour that brings release:
and the city’s crowded clangour
cries aloud for sin to cease;
and the homesteads and the woodlands
plead in silence for their peace.

Crown, O God, thine own endeavour;
cleave our darkness with thy sword;
feed thy people’s hungry spirits
with the richness of thy word:
cleanse the body of this nation
through the glory of the Lord.
