Henry Shapcott Bunce (1854 – 1917) wrote under the pseudonym Shapcott Wensley and was English author and poet, born in Bristol. By profession he was a clerk in a soap works. As a poet he adopted the combined names of his mother and his wife as his pseudonym, Shapcott Wensley.
He wrote lyrics for songs and librettos for cantatas and among the composers he worked for were Edward William Elgar (1857 – 1934) and John Henry Maunder (1858 – 1920). Many of his texts were written on commission by the publishing house Novello.
