O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing (Lyngham, Organ, 6 Verses)

O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing : Lyrics

1. O for a thousand tongues to sing
My dear Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and king,
The triumphs of his grace! (x3)

2. Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease;
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘Tis life, and health, and peace. (x3)

3. He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean,
His blood availed for me. (x3)

4. He speaks; and, listening to his voice,
New life the dead receive;
The mournful, broken hearts rejoice;
The humble poor believe. (x3)

5. Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb,
Your loosened tongues employ;
You blind, behold your Saviour come;
And leap, ye lame, for joy!

6. My gracious master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honours of thy name. (x3)

Lectionary

Christ Is Made The Sure Foundation (Westminster Abbey, Organ, 4 Verses)

Christ Is Made The Sure Foundation : Lyrics

1. Christ is made the sure foundation,
Christ the head and cornerstone,
Chosen of the Lord, and precious,
Binding all the Church in one;
Holy Zion’s help for ever,
And her confidence alone.

2. To this temple, where we call thee,
Come, O Lord of Hosts, today;
With thy wonted loving-kindness
Hear thy servants as they pray,
And thy fullest benediction
Shed within its walls alway.

3. Here vouchsafe to all thy servants
What they ask of thee of gain;
What they gain from thee, for ever
With the blessèd to retain,
And hereafter in thy glory
Evermore with thee to reign.

Laud and honor to the Father,
Laud and honor to the Son,
Laud and honor to the Spirit,
Ever Three, and ever One,
Consubstantial, co-eternal,
While unending ages run.

Meter: 87 87 87. Lyrics from Urbs Beata Jerusalem (c.7th century), translated by John Mason Neale (1818 – 1866). Public Domain
